Pastoral & Attendance

At Stretford High School we ensure that all our students feel secure, happy and cared for within the school environment.

The welfare of the children in our school is the responsibility of all members of staff who take a genuine personal interest in your son/daughter and offer personalised guidance, encouragement and support.

The Pastoral and Welfare Teams oversee the Pastoral Care System in school. By following national guidelines and procedures, we are able to take our responsibilities in terms of Safeguarding and Child Protection extremely seriously.

Children are placed within a Learning Tutor Group, with their Learning Tutor having initial responsibility for the social welfare of that group. This includes the monitoring of attendance, punctuality, behaviour and well-being.

The Head of Year and Assistant Head of Year have overall responsibility for the pastoral care of a year group. Where issues arise, we will always intervene quickly and work with parents/carers to address any concerns.

welfare & safeguarding

The Learner Welfare team supports student welfare and safeguarding across the school. The team offers a space in school called ‘The Hub’ where students can drop in during social times or access throughout the day for specialist support. Our aim is to build strong and positive  relationships between school and families, provide a safe space for parents to engage with the school in order to get the best outcomes for their child / children and family.

We work with families to access local support and external agencies, helping to bring our community together.

Safeguarding

Stretford High is committed to keeping students and families happy and safe. We know that many things can impact on this and we endeavour to keep everyone involved with the school up to date and informed around safeguarding.

Staff in school receive regular updates giving them information and key topics so that we are able to support and respond appropriately and safely. We aim for all staff in school to have the skills and knowledge needed to best support those most in need and hope you find these helpful and informative. Should any of these issues be affecting you, or you are concerned about a child or family, please contact Trafford First Response on 0161 912 5125. You can find out more information on their website Trafford Children’s First Response.

You can also contact school by emailing [email protected] should you have a concern, and the team will get back to you.

Encompass

Our school is part of a project, which is run between Trafford Local Authority, schools and Greater Manchester Police. The project called Operation Encompass, has been designed to provide early reporting of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside school, which might have an impact on a child in school. This is communicated through a secure email to school following an incident.

The project ensures that at least one member of the school staff, known as the Key Adult, is available to liaise with children’s services and the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence.

In this way, we aim to support each child who has experienced domestic abuse.

The Key Adults at Stretford High School are Miss L Murton and Miss S Davison.

If they receive an Encompass notification they will make sure that a person the child trusts is available to help – if the child needs this. Most of the time this support is silent; keeping a careful eye on him or her and making sure the child has a calm school day. The confidential information is ordinarily not shared with all staff, just an agreement on how to help, if needed.

All schools have a duty to share any information with other organisations if they feel a child is at risk of being hurt. The Key Adult may contact other organisations.

The sharing of information from the police allows the school to be ready to help your child straight away, and it means that parents are aware that the Key Adult knows that something has happened. Parents can come and talk to our Key Adult. The Key Adult can point you towards other people that can help.

Our aim is to support children and their families.
