STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Year 11

In Year 11 we roll out our amazing prefect team who support the school during events such as parent evenings and open days. We also run charity events such as bake sale, tuck shops to support the school charities. Our Year 11’s also help in creating a safer environment during social times by taking part in lunch duties to make sure all students are safe. Our resilience shines through taking part in mock exams just before Christmas which allows them to aspire moving forward.

Year 7

Community Leaders – Community

Year 7 are given the opportunity to ingratiate themselves within the community – both in school and around Trafford – by joining our Community Leaders Team. We aim to encourage our students to see the value in helping others, looking after, and giving back to our community, all whilst building their leadership and teamwork skills. By taking part in projects like litter picking, charity drives, and promoting social responsibility, all of our Community Leaders are building their reputations as great Stretfordians as well as developing skills of empathy and kindness.

Year 8

Community Leaders – ASPIRE Focus

In Year 8 we focus on the word ASPIRE. We look for ways for our Y8 Community Leaders to take part in aspirational projects that support their local community in and outside of school. For example; litter picks, bag packing and community lunches. Our aim is to create a sense of community and provide students opportunities to lead and be aspirational role models for their year group and wider school community.

Year 9

CARE Ambassadors –  Resilience Focus

This year, our Year 9 leadership team is focusing on Resilience, an essential quality for personal growth and success. Our student leaders are committed to supporting both Year 7 students and Year 6 pupils as they navigate the challenges of transitioning to high school.

Through initiatives such as delivering assemblies, providing one-on-one mentoring, and engaging in transition activities with Year 6 pupils, the team will share their own experiences, highlighting the challenges they’ve faced and the strategies they’ve used to overcome them.

By fostering resilience, our Year 9 leaders aim to inspire younger students to approach new experiences with confidence and determination, ensuring a positive start to their high school journey.

Year 10

Education Focus

Year 10’s focus is EDUCATION. Year 10 students are encouraged to take ownership of their own education and learning to ensure that they’re consistently progressing in the GCSE subjects through engagement, dedication and communication.

Students also have the opportunity to become a mentor to Year 8 students where they have the opportunity to educate, guide and support these students through challenges they may be facing whilst at Stretford High School.

Sport is extremely important to many students at Stretford High School and our Year 10’s will have the opportunity to take a leadership role during lunchtimes to help staff run, educate and ensure safe play during the football sessions provided at lunchtime.

Student Council

The Student Council of Stretford High School is a collaborative and student led group, with students from Year 7 to 11 taking part in weekly meetings and discussions about issues facing the school.

Student Council’s discussions focus on our CARE ethos. Actions that the team have worked through so far include getting responses for Student Voice, and responding to ideas from the wider student body. Ensuring a range of extra-curricular clubs are offered across the week to all students. Designing a suggestions box so that ideas can be shared at any point throughout the year, and many more.

Moving forwards, Student Council is going to focus their leadership skills towards our School House System, and bring in a range of competitions and activities that embed our houses consistently across the school.

The Student Council operates a policy of equality, respect and integrity. We aim to ensure everyone has their voice heard through open discussion and we hope that we can make a difference to Stretford High School with help from other student and staff.

Youth Travel Ambassadors

The Youth Travel Ambassador Programme empowers secondary school students with the skills and confidence to address transport issues affecting their school community. The programme focuses on increasing the number of students who travel actively, to and from school.

Stretford High School has completed 2 years of the programme so far, with the teams achieving both Green and Bronze Travel Awards for their campaigns. The highlight of the YTA year is the annual No Car Day that takes place on Great Stone Road. Our current team of Ambassadors are part way through Year 3 of the campaign, and planning for an exciting competition called Operation Mount Everest! They hope to achieve the Silver Travel Award for SHS this year.
